The DRC's child mortality rate is one of the highest in the world, due to the large amount of the population suffering from malnutrition and famine. Although being extremely rich in resources such as copper, gold and oil, decades of war and destruction in the DRC has crippled the government forcing most of the population into poverty and famine.
During a civil war, a nations hunger problem can be used as a weapon as different armies can deliberately destroy food stocks, resulting in the nation having less of an advantage resource-wise. War also forces people out of there homes, and if farmers are driven out of their homes, the nations food will drastically decrease, resulting in the opposing side in the war having a massive advantage.
